Wonder why we have ranked Projectors in this order?

Go through our section on comparative analysis to find out why.

In this section we focus on some important metrics to explain the performance of our projectors.

White Brightness Rating Of Gaming Projectors
White Brightness Ratings (Hint:Taller Bars are better)

Brighter definitely means better.

But how much white brightness do you really need?

The amount of white brightness you need is determined by the room you project in.

Smaller rooms and rooms with controlled ambient lighting require less lumens..For home cinema projectors with ambient light kept to a minimum, 1500 lumens is a pretty decent rating. However rooms where ambient lighting can’t be controlled or large rooms require a projector with lumen rating in excess of 2500

Outdoor usage requires a projector with much higher lumens.

Our selection of video gaming projectors have more than good white brightness ratings for indoor use.

3400 lumens

3000 lumens

2800 lumens

3200 lumens

2200 lumens

2200 lumens

2200 lumens

However white brightness cannot be the only metric in determining the choice of a projector.

Color Brightness Rating Of Gaming Projectors
Color Brightness Ratings (Hint:Taller Bars are better)

Color Brightness is also measured in lumens. More color brightness means better colors.

Do all the projectors mention the color brightness ratings in their specifications?

You might not find this rating listed in the specifications of a majority of the projectors. But this is one very important metric that cannot be ignored. It is misleading to believe that white brightness is the same as color brightness.

In our testing of these projectors Epson 2040 was the clear winner , with brighter sharper colors and a color brightness rating of 2200. Both the BenQ projectors came in 2nd with a fairly decent color quality as compared to other projectors in our ranking list.ViewSonic and both the Optoma projectors do not have as superior color sharpness as the Epson or the BenQ projectors.

Once again color brightness alone cannot be used to determine your choice of projector.

Contrast Ratio Of Gaming Projectors
Contrast Rating Of Projectors(Hint:Taller Bars are better)

Contrast ratio is the difference between light and dark on a screen, expressed by a number. If you take the brightest white on a screen and the darkest black and compare the luminosity, you get the contrast ratio.

The contrast is where the Optoma Projectors outshined the others.

The black on the Optoma projectors appeared to be proper black. The Epson 2040 projector was however found wanting in the dark scenes. Because the dark in the scene appeared washed out and had more of a dark grayish tone instead of black. The BenQ projectors had a fairly good black also.

Input lag of a projector is the amount of processing time a projector takes to display a received video input signal onto the screen. The lesser the input lag the better.

So what is an acceptable input lag ?

Ideally the input lag should be 0 ms. Regardless of whether you are using a Television or Projector for gaming , some amount of input lag will be incurred. So we have to think now in terms of acceptable input lag for gaming purposes. An input lag value of less than 40ms is fairly good and provides for a smooth gaming experience. Input lag of our projectors was measured using the Leo Bodnar lag tester.
