ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD Gaming Monitor Review

To be able to keep up with today’s titles, you’ll need a dedicated gaming monitor. 60Hz, 1080p, and sub-24-inch displays simply won’t do anymore. Ideally, you’ll want something that’s bigger, with high refresh rates and low response times, preferably with an IPS panel. Of course, it would be even better if it didn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Unfortunately, affordable high-performance gaming monitors don’t come quite often if at all. Displays with 1440p resolutions and a 144Hz refresh rate aren’t cheap.  This is especially true if it has an IPS panel.

So, when we saw what the spec sheet of the Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD, you’d best forgive us for being skeptical.

A competitively priced 27-inch 1440p 144Hz gaming monitor with an IPS Panel and a 3ms response time rating with FreeSync support to boot, the VX2758-2KP-MHD just seems too good to be true.

Is it though? Read on more below to find out.

Image Quality

Image Quality Scores Based on Color Accuracy, Color Gamuts, Viewing Angles and Contrast Using Bar Chart

The VX2758-2KP-MHD shares the same Innolux AAS panel with other more expensive and well-reviewed models. Chief among them is the Acer XV272U, which many consider as one of the best value gaming monitors to date.

As we have come to expect of every IPS panel the stand out feature of this monitor is its vibrant colors. The VX2758-2KP-MHD also has a wide color gamut that covers 96% of the available DCI-P# color space which translates to a comprehensive coverage of the sRGB color gamut. The monitor largely benefits from its color depth to seamlessly produce subtle variations in color shades for smoother gradients that almost eliminates color banding.

The VX2758 leaves an instant impact with crisp images showing rich details thanks to 2560 x 1440 pixels packed in the 27-inch panel. That translates to a pixel density of 108ppi which makes it an extremely suitable monitor for text-intensive work. The higher pixel density significantly enhances picture details providing crisp and clear detail-rich images. This makes this gaming monitor ideal for productivity and work purposes as well.

The panel exhibits superior color accuracy that is hard to beat at this price point. While this may not be a pro-grade editing monitor, it is pretty dependable for jobs requiring color accuracy.

The contrast is not the best feature of this monitor. The blacks aren’t as deep as we normally observe in VA panels. The IPS glow becomes a factor in diluting the darker shades at times.

The monitor’s wide-angle performance is remarkable. We didn’t notice any color shift even from very wide angles.

There is no hint of pixelation even when sitting up close to the monitor.

Overall the monitor’s image quality is hard to surpass given that it is priced around 300$.

Performance

The VX2758-2KP-MHD provides the coveted blend of high refresh rate, low response time and the vibrant colors of an IPS panel. Playing games like Fortnite with bright backdrops brings out the best in this IPS panel.
For competitive high-speed gaming like CS:GO it is best to set the response time mode to Advanced in the OSD menu. The monitor’s motion handling is very good at these settings with a very little amount of blurring. And if you are overly sensitive to blurring then you can use the 1ms mode which enables backlight strobing, to produce much clear motion. Strobing, however, comes at the cost of a slightly increased input lag and reduced brightness.

Playing games like witcher3 that offer plenty of dark trails thoroughly test the monitor’s contrast which is definitely not its best feature. The blacks are not as deep as those in VA panels such as the Sceptre C305B-200UN. The IPS glow at the bottom edges of the panel adds to the grayishness of the blacks and some of the details are lost. Yet if you compare this monitor’s contrast with rival IPS panels like the LG27GL850 then the VX2758 definitely offers better contrast. The contrast is definitely a deal-breaker.

The panel effortlessly handles frame rate drops thanks to its support for AMD Freesync to provide smooth tear-free and stutter-free gaming.

A word of caution though, the VX2758-2KP-MHD doesn’t come with a DisplayPort cable out of the box. This is especially important for gamers wanting to enable Freesync which is available over display port. The monitor is also compatible with Nvidia Graphics cards that are series 10 or higher and it also requires the use of a display port cable.

Our Verdict: The monitor is highly responsive and delivers an excellent gaming performance.

Design and Build Quality

Design-wise, the VX2758-2KP-MHD is not atypical of that of a gaming monitor. But, at the same time, it doesn’t stand out either. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because this means that it won’t be divisive by any means. However, those preferring something with more personality would want something that turned more heads.

If it’s any consolation though, the VX2758-2KP-MHD does come with really thin bezels on its flat 27-inch screen. This gives it a rather svelte body, which, paired with its matte-black chassis that’s covered with anti-glare matte coating, gives it a somewhat classy look.

Unfortunately, you can only tilt the stand of the VX2758-2KP-MHD by around -5 to 15 degrees. You’d have to purchase a separate VESA mount to give it more range of movement.

Overall, the build quality of the VX2758-2KP-MHD isn’t what we’d call great, but it is decent.

In addition to what we’ve already mentioned, the VX2758-2KP-MHD has a nice textured finish in the back panels and the stand is actually quite stable, provided that you don’t move too much when gaming. Otherwise, there’ll be some noticeable wobbling.

Thankfully, these issues can easily be solved by mounting the gaming monitor.

Features

The VX2758-2KP-MHD comes with multiple convenient nifty features.

First up on the list are the six hotkeys. You can find them easily on the back-side of the monitor’s right side. You can use these hotkeys to navigate your way through the On-Screen Display of the gaming monitor.

Speaking of gaming, Viewsonic made sure to equip this gaming monitor with useful picture presets right out of the box.

It doesn’t matter what kind of game you prefer playing. It can be a First Person Shooter, or a Real-Time Strategy title, or even a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, or even a dark game. There is enough picture presets available via the On-Screen Display to guarantee optimal image quality.

You’ll also have access to numerous image adjustment tools with the VX2758-2KP-MHD. This includes Color Temperature settings and Color Range settings.

We recommend using Native for the former (or sRGB if you like it better) and changing the latter from ‘Auto’ to ‘Full Range’ for better image quality.

Last but not definitely not least, ViewSonic equipped the VX2758-2KP-MHD with its Enhanced Viewing Comfort technology. This means that it has an integrated low-blue light filter and flicker-free backlight to help minimize eye strain and fatigue when using the monitor for long periods of time.

Summary

Is the Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD a no-brainer? Well, we wouldn’t exactly say that. But it is a good buy though, and we can say that with utmost certainty.

If you are on the market for an affordable 1440p gaming monitor with a 144Hz maximum refresh rate and an IPS display, the VX2758-2KP-MHD should be on your shortlist.

Just keep in mind that Viewsonic did have to make a couple of compromises to help keep the price low. Like, for example, how this gaming monitor lacks fancy adjustment features, such as RGB lighting, HDR support, and custom crosshairs, or even a more stable, adjustable stand for better comfort.

A cheaper yet very good option to explore is the AOC CQ27G1 that boasts a VA panel with much better contrasts, however, the colors on VX2758-2KP-MHD are much better.
