How to factory reset your laptop?

Factory reset is the term that describes that the user’s data from the electronic device has been permanently deleted and all the settings are restored to the default settings (set by the manufacturer).

Factory reset is usually utilized to solve a software problem within your device or just to remove one’s data before selling the device.

The following are the steps for factory resetting your laptop.

FOR WINDOWS 7

1.Start your device.

2.Press the F8 key and keep pressing it until the Advanced boot options opens.

3.Over there choose the “Safe Mode with Command Prompt”.

4.Press the ‘enter’ key.

5.log in(assuming you are the administrator).

6.When Command Prompt comes on the screen type in the command “rstrui.exe”

7.Press ‘enter’ .

8.Follow the wizard instructions to complete factory restore.

FOR WINDOWS 8

1.Go to start screen or desktop.

2.Open the ‘Charms bar’ by pressing the windows key and C or by dragging the cursor to the bottom right corner.

3.Go to settings.

4.Then to change PC settings.

5.Select the ‘General’ heading and scroll down to ‘Remove everything and reinstall windows’

6.Click next and choose either ‘Remove my files’(This is quicker, satisfactory for most users and someday your data can be restored using the right tools) or ‘Clean drive fully’(This takes longer and completely formats your Hard Drive).

7.Click ‘Reset’ and your work is complete.

FOR WINDOWS 10

1.Click the gear icon on the start menu and click on settings.

2.Click on ‘Update and security’.

3.Select ‘Recovery’ from the left side.

4.Here you have to choose between three options: 

       a. Restart this PC.

       b. Go back to an earlier build.

       c. Advanced startup.

Reset this PC is usually the better option.

5.Select ‘Get started’

6.Choose between ‘Keep my files’ and ‘Remove everything’.

7.If you selected remove everything in the previous step, you need to choose between ‘Just remove my files’ and ‘Remove files and clean the drive’.(The latter is longer and recommended if you are selling the device)

8.Click on ‘Next’, ‘Reset’, and ‘Continue’ in the same order.

FOR MACBOOK

1.Restart your device.

2.While the computer restarts itself, press the ‘Command’ and ‘R’ keys.

3.Release them once the Apple logo appears on screen.

4.When you come across the Recovery mode, click on Disk Utility.

5.On the Disk Utility window, highlight the ‘Macintosh HD’ startup disk, then select ‘Erase’.

6.A pop-up window will appear. Convert the format to macOS Extended and click ‘Erase’ again.

7.In the Disk Utilities menu click on ‘Quit Disk Utility’ 

8.Click ‘Install macOS’ on the window that appears.
