What Is Eye Tracking?

The definition for Eye tracking as seen in the Oxford dictionary is as follows

“The recording and study of the movements of the eyes in following a moving object, lines of printed text, or other visual stimulus, used as a diagnostic procedure.”

How does eye tracking work?

Eye tracking involves directing a light (almost similar to infrared) at the viewer’s pupils, which results in reflections being created in the cornea. A camera then traces the aforementioned reflections, which inturn helps to trace the point of view of the user. This technology is able to tell the difference between a user’s iris and pupil as light bounces off when it hits the iris but is absorbed by the pupil. Fortunately humans aren’t able to see infra-red light (or anything similar) so it isn’t distracting whatsoever.
