Curved Monitors

Curved screen monitors first came out in the year 2013 and in the span of 8 years they have started to dominate the E-sports industry, so this doesn’t come as a surprise when you realize that curved screen monitor production has taken over the flat screen production and rightfully so as curved monitors offer a lot more features over flat screen monitors, the biggest being a wider range of view. A curved display is a game changing display technology that can also display 3-D screens along with 2-D

What does the ‘R’ mean?

The ‘R’ in curved monitor specs means ‘Radius’ and it is the total distance from the edge of the screen to it’s very center. The curvature of a monitor is represented by ‘R’ and 1R is equal to 1mm so for example, 1000R would mean 1000mm. The more is the value of ‘R’ more is the width or radius of the panel so for example, a 2000R display would be twice as wider than a 1000R display.

The more curved the better?

There are multiple types of curved monitors available with different curvatures according to your use. If you want a more accentuated display curve, then 1800R or a 1500R, even a 1000R are good. This much curvature is more likely to give you an immersive Gaming experience. As for 3800R and ultrawide are a massively wide screens with a slight curve that better accommodates natural human viewing. In addition, if you want a curved, non-ultrawide display then 1800R is ideal.  If you do want ultrawide, This would be much useful for official use as it will allow you manage multiple tasks at same time. But as all good things come at a cost, the curved monitors will be more prone to glare when viewed at certain angles as compared to flat screens. The best way to solve this glare issue is to keep your monitor away from light source as much as possible.

Is a curved screen monitor necessary for gaming?

Curved screen monitors may not be a necessary when it comes to gaming but it is highly recommended for fast paced first person shooter or battle royale games such as Warzone as they require a wider view area to spot incoming enemies.  However the refresh rate, response time, colour depth are same as the flat screen monitors.
