DDR4 RAM

DDR4 RAMs were first introduced in the market back in mid-2014, but it wasn’t until 2015 that Intel and other processor brands started to support it and it went mainstream.

So to answer the burning question, how is the DDR4 different from the DDR3 and why should you upgrade your RAM?

DDR4 offers many nifty upgrades and qualities which pushed the DDR3 RAM’s out of the competition, these upgrades include:

-Difference in pin nodules, DDR3 used 240 chips whereas DDR4 makes use 288 chips.

-DDR4 uses less voltage (1.2V) than the DDR3 (1.5V).

-Storage capacity of DDR4 (2GB-16GB) is greater than DDR3 (512MB-8GB).

-DDR4 (starts at 2133mhz and can reach 4800mhz) is faster than DDR3 (max. speed 2133mhz).

-Refresh algorithm refers to the number of times the RAM refreshes. DDR3 RAM made use of 2 algorithms, AR (automatic refresh) and SR (self-refresh). It would switch between the two depending how much stress was being applied to the system. However, DDR4 uses automatic refresh only, meaning it actively refreshes itself (which helps in avoiding unprocessed data piling up).
