IPS Panel – Basic Information

IPS (In Plane Switching) technology is used in LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays). The orientation of the crystals is changed by applying voltage to filter light through the panel. IPS panels are known for their superior image quality compared to VA and TN panels.

Advantages of IPS Panels

  • Wide Viewing Angles: Viewing experience is consistent no matter where you are positioned relative to the screen. Colors do not appear washed out from any angle.
  • Higher color accuracy compared to VA and TN Panels
  • Wider Color Gamuts: IPS panels are capable of supporting a wider variety of colors.

Disadvantages of IPS Panels

  • More expensive than VA and TN panels
  • Poor contrast: Not best for presenting dark scenes in movies and games
  • IPS Glow at the edges of the panel disturbs visibility in dark scenes.
  • Slower response times traditionally, although the latest IPS panels have highly improved response times.

IPS Panel Recommended Uses:

  • Professional Photo and Video Editing
  • Professional Graphic Designing
  • General/Mixed-Use
  • Video Streaming
  • Gaming for those that value picture over performance

Applications of IPS Panels

  • Computer Monitors
  • Mobile Phones
  • Tablets
  • Laptop Screens
