The Blue light problem

The reason behind blue light hurting is biology. In our factory setting, one where we only have the sun as our light source, our eyes sense the sun setting and the environment growing darker, which triggers our brain to release sleeping hormones.

When artificial light is used, our body gets confused and so the signal to produce sleep hormones is disturbed. Blue light, especially, makes us more alert and so the production and release of sleep hormones is delayed and decreases.

The purpose for creating the blue light technology was to terminate the blue light so that problems like eye fatigue could be prevented.

Filters on your device

Windows and MacOS both come equipped with blue light filters and can be used by following the steps below:

On Windows 10

1.       Click the manage notifications button on the bottom right hand side

2.       Click on the Night Light button to switch on the blue light filter (this should make the screen look warmer)

On Windows 11

1.       Go to Settings

2.       Click on System Option

3.       Go to Display

4.       Click the night light settings and switch them on

On MacOS

1.       Go to Preferences

2.       Go to Displays

3.       Switch on Night Shift

There are also downloadable options (for all devices whether it be Windows, Android, MacOS etc) available on the odd chance that your device doesn’t offer such a feature. In addition some users have also praised blue light filtering glasses which are easily available on amazon for as little as $49.99 (at the time of writing).
