OLED Panels

The term OLED is an acronym for ‘Organic Light Emitting Diodes’. OLED’s make use of organic molecules in order to produce light and these panels are considered to be the best panels in the market at the moment. OLED panels are made by setting a series of thin organic films in-between conductors. When electrical current is passed through the conductors, bright light is emitted.

OLED’s are emissive displays, what this means is that each pixel and emit light individually, with different intensity than the other, resulting in achieving infinite contrast ratios as true blacks (the pixel can be switched off so it produces no light) can be achieved right next to pure whites (which is something that LCD’s cannot achieve due to the fact that LCD’s make use of backlighting). Furthermore OLED panels offer amazing image quality, swift motion, smaller form factors, lively, bright colors and surprising flexibility.

Nowadays OLEDs are used mostly by phone manufactures (however TV manufacturers are catching up) to produce high-end phones that boast features like foldability and rollability, such as Samsung Galaxy Z fold series and Oppo X 2021.

Innovative Opportunities

OLED panels opened the doors to technology that seemed nothing less than science fiction a decade ago. Foldable phones are already available in the market and have gained immense popularity for their unique design and experience. Furthermore rollable concept handsets, such as Oppo X 2021 and samsungs rollable phone (documents already submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization) are out, while the concept of stretchable phones doesn’t seems like a stretch anymore, no concepts or designs have been unveiled at the moment but never say never.
