Software update 5.50 for PS 4
Sony has updated software for PlayStation 4. The software update includes several new features.
PARENTAL CONTROL
The latest software update version 5.50 gives parents control over how much time a child can play on the console.
Parents can now configure the console settings to set up play time hours – for instance 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm – during which kids will be able to use the console. The system will automatically logout the user once the play time is up.
Play timings can be customized differently for each day of the week.
Parents will also be able to view and manage playtime from a PC or smartphone using the PlayStation App
The idea of limiting screen time for the kids has been a major concern over the years. PS4 is not the only gadget from SONY that has implemented parental control.
Nintendo Switch – a widely popular handheld gaming gadget from Nintendo which recorded the highest sales of any other gaming console in US history in the first 3 quarters since its launch – already has this feature integrated into its software.
IMPROVED IMAGE QUALITY FOR TVs WITH LOWER RESOLUTIONS
Another feature that is a part of this update intends to improve image quality on TV with 2K or lower resolution.
A “super-sampling mode” has been introduced for video games that would previously require 4K resolution TVs.
PS4 pro players who do not have a 4K TV will now be able to play these games with improved image output on lower resolution TVs courtesy of the new “super-sampling mode” which down-scales image from 4K to lower resolutions.Super-sampling mode can be enabled from
Settings > Sound and Screen > Video Output Settings
CUSTOMIZE IMAGES
Other updated features include uploading photos to the console that can be setup as wallpapers or logos.
FEATURES ADDED TO LIBRARY
Users can now keep track of all free PlayStation Plus games
Games have been grouped into categories. Free PlayStation Plus games appear in separate group from purchased games on the library page.
Users can now configure settings to hide all unwanted games and applications
MORE NEW AND REVISED FEATURES
User interface now includes tabs with listings of recent purchases, installations and also a list of friends that are online right now.
Music playback functions on the quick menu have been improved.
Create events from Team Profile Screen.Events > Create Event for This Team.
A PS VR icon appears next to games on the Home Screen/Library that can be played on PlayStation® VR.
Notifications can now be deleted
Players have the option of hiding list of players that they follow from anyone they want. Settings > Account Management > Privacy Settings > Friends | Connections
