IMAGE QUALITY

The AOC C24G1 is powered by a VA Panel with a Full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution.

This is an 8-bit panel that can produce up to 16.7 million colors.  The panels’ coverage of sRGB color space is comprehensive (99% of sRGB).

The colors produced are vibrant and the images look sharp. The color accuracy is particularly good for a VA panel. Also the colors appear uniform in every part of the monitor.

The panel has a peak brightness of 250 cd/cm2.It is bright enough for daytime use. However it is not the brightest monitor available when you compare it with some of its rival monitors.

The contrast is really impressive. The darks are black and as good as any that we have seen on another VA panel. The monitors’ contrast capabilities shine in the dark scenes presenting even minor details with vivid clarity.

We had our apprehensions about pairing a 24-inch screen with 1920 x 1080p resolution. However, this monitor showed no evidence of pixelation under our rigorous scrutiny.

The overall image quality is good. The games and movies look great.

Finally, the viewing angles are good and the image quality appears pretty uniform regardless of the viewing angle.

Note: You may feel the need to tinker the settings a bit to calibrate the monitor to an image quality that works best for you. We also recommend the use of DisplayPort rather than HDMI for better results.

 DESIGN

The monitor has an elegant look. The red accents on the front base and rear of this monitor give a nice gamery aesthetic that is not overdone by any means.

AOC C24G1 Gaming Montor Rear View

It is a curved monitor with an aggressive 1500R curvature that is not commonly used in other monitors. As much as the curve improves the aesthetics, it adds little in terms of immersion whilst playing games and that perhaps is due to the fact that 24 inches is not wide enough to achieve anything significant in this regard.

aoc c24g1 multi-monitor setup

The monitor sports the narrowest bezels at the top, left and right side, making it a good candidate for multi-monitor setups.

The sturdy metal stand holds up well against any shocks by keeping the monitor stable, as we found out whilst mischievously smacking the monitor (mind you gently) from all sorts of angles. The stand provides plenty of ergonomic options which include a 130mm/5.12 inches screen height adjustment, a swivel of 34ᵒ in both left and right direction, and a tilt of 4ᵒ backward and 21.5ᵒ forward. It is conveniently punched with a hole in its neck to route the cables.

The connectors at the back of the monitor are fitted facing downwards towards the base of the stand. There are two HDMI 1.4 ports, a Display Port 1.2, a VGA port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

GAMING PERFORMANCE

The AOC C24G1 has a 144Hz, VA Panel with a response time of 1ms and AMD FreeSync to prevent Screen Tearing during fast-action games.

We played several titles including Battlefield 1 to test this monitor. The monitor leaves an instant impact with its speed and smoothness. There is no hint of input lag as one fires rifle shots and moves around frantically. All actions on the keyboard are instantly translated on to the screen.

The AMD FreeSync operates in the 48-144Hz range to deliver smooth visuals without screen tearing and stuttering as frame rates drop.  The monitor is definitely fast and responsive with a nice fluidity to the gameplay. It is also compatible with Nvidia Gsync technology although we haven’t tested it using an Nvidia Graphics Card.

The dark scenes are striking, fantastically clear and well presented.

The pixel transitions are speedy and there is no noticeable blur in general. However there is evidence of blur in the dark scenes, yet it is not that eye-catching unless you are overly sensitive. That said switching to the ‘Strong’ pixel overdrive setting through OSD eliminates blurring in the dark scenes and also makes the monitor extremely responsive. However, the overdrive mode impacts brightness by lowering it.

This is one of the fastest monitors in the market and a strong contender for the throne in its price category.
