How to check your monitor for Black Crush?

The easiest way to check your display for Black Crush is by using the ‘Starfield’ test.

Most of the stars won’t be visible on a display that exhibits black crush.

However on an OLED, nearly all of the stars should be viewable as a pitch black pixel can be right next to a pure white pixel on OLED panels.

Sometimes the reason a display exhibits black crush isn’t because of the display itself but could be because of the fact that the display isn’t calibrated, as many displays aren’t calibrated when they leave the manufacturer.
