| HP 14-dk0731ms’s design is nearly the same as HP’s other models, stunning and curvy. The weight of this laptop is 3.25 pounds (1kg and 47 grams) and the size is 12.76 x 8.89 x 0.78 in, which makes it a highly portable device. In order to cut down on some cost, the body was made out of plastic but the material is by no definition low quality or weak. The contrast of ash silver and natural silver bumps up the aesthetics of the device and gives it a 4-digit laptop look. |  |
CONNECTIVITY
There are 3 USB ports including 1xUSB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C (data transfer, 5GBs singling rate), 2xUSB 3.1 Gen 1 Type A (data transfer only) and 1 AC smart pin. 1 HDMI 1.4 port, 1 Rj-45 headphone/microphone combo. HP 14-dk0731ms has built-in Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.2 and RJ-45 LAN Ethernet combo. The model also provides an SD card reader which can help tremendously, when it comes to upgrading your internal storage.
SPEAKERS
The speakers of HP 14-dk0731ms are top firing. The performance of speakers is good enough, but if you wish to experience the best sounds, then the use of external speakers or headphones is advised.

The device uses HP true vision HD camera with integrated digital microphone. The result of webcam is merely adequate, so if you attend a lot of video call, then external webcams might become a necessity.
DISPLAY
| If we talk about display, it is a 14” HD (1366 x 768p) VA display. VA panels have bad response time, viewing angles and terrible colors. However they provide better contrast and refresh rates than the IPS and TN panels. The brightness level of this laptop isn’t great. The size of bezels is small, which means more screen area and are in no way irritating. The display has glossy screen type. KEYBOARD/MOUSEPAD
The keyboard of the HP 14dk0731ms has a charming, attractive ash silver color. The keyboard is very comfortable to use. The keys are well-spaced and soft to the touch. Sadly the keyboard isn’t backlit, which might cause some problems while using it in the dark, but on the plus side it does help to boost the battery life as backlit keyboards suck a lot out of the battery. If we talk about mouse pad, it is smooth and comfortable in use. The mouspad does have buttons, which makes left and right clicking really easy as compared to using integrated buttons.
STORAGE
HDD/SSD
HP 14-dk0731ms has a M.2 SSD of 128 GB. 128 GB is not enough for some of its user, fortunately it can be upgraded up to 4TBs (however it will be an expensive task). SSD runs faster and stores data more safely than both hard drives and eMMC’s. M.2 SSD took less space, which helps to make the device thinner and more portable, furthermore SSD’s dissipate less heat in comparison to its competitors.
RAM
There is 8 GB DDR4 RAM installed in this model. 8GB RAM is enough to fulfill your daily needs. DDR4 RAM’s have the ability to be upgraded up to 64GB per chip .8 GB RAM is enough to run both medium and light softwares, furthermore you can run certain heavy softwares as well such as Filmora , Adobe premiere pro, Tanagra etc.
PERFORMANCE
The AMD Ryzen 3 3200U 2.6 GHz, dual core processor is used in this laptop ( can be boosted up to 3.5GHz). The processor is best for office work, light software’s, light gaming and simply the best for editing purpose etc. In addition the processor can easily carry out day to day tasks such as web browsing, socializing, online shopping, video calling etc. The processor has integrated AMD Radeon™ Vega 3 Graphics. The GPU is perfect for light gaming but can’t handle heavy games like PUBG, GTA V or Fortnite. Unfortunately the processor does get hot and there is a cooling fan installed to keep the processor cool, but the fan has a loud sound which can sometimes get irritating.
BATTERY LIFE
There is 1 lithium ion battery preinstalled. The expected life of battery is stated to be around 8 hours, but unfortunately the actual battery life shrinks down to 6 hours. 6 hours of battery life is not good for travelling and won’t even get you through your full work day and regretfully this is one of the biggest drawbacks of this model.
SOFTWARES AND FEATURES
The cloud storage of HP 14-dk0731ms is a total of 20GB’s (5GB’s of Microsoft One Drive storage and 15GB’s of Google drive storage). Cloud storage is very useful as you can store and retrieve your data anytime, anywhere on any device. You can boost up your cloud storage quota but there will be a yearly fee associated with it. You can download your desire application through Microsoft Store as well as the internet (remember to only use trusted websites).
BUY IT IF
Buy it if you want it for day by day use. The device is more than capable of handling light video editing software’s (such as Open shot video editor), and photo editing software’s (like Adobe Photoshop). Buy it if you like to play light games as the processor can run them without any problem.
DON’T BUY IT IF
Don’t buy it if you want a device to accompany you while travelling, the battery life is not good enough for travelling and it would barely get you through your full work day. Don’t buy it if you want high color gamut’s because of the glossy screen, the color gamut really take a hit.
