Image Quality

Image Quality Scores Based on Color Accuracy, Color Gamuts, Viewing Angles and Contrast Using Bar Chart
The resolution of 2560×1440 in a 27’’ screen provides a high pixel density value of 108ppi. The monitor delivers sharp images offering prominent and crisp visuals with well-defined contours. It displays well-defined text and no pixelation is to be observed whether you choose to sit near the monitor or at a distance from it. Hurdles and enemies are clearly visible while playing games.

Overall, this monitor has a pretty good color performance for a TN panel. The Dell S2719DGF boasts an impressive 98% SRGB color Gamut. The monitor has true 8-bit color depth. It possesses great colors which we found to be superior to some other TN panels that we tested.  However, it is, after all, a TN panel and thus bows down in front of good IPS panels such as ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q. The bad viewing angles (discussed later) cause colors to appear washed out when viewed at angles. There is slight banding however it isn’t visible in most cases.

The monitor has an SDR peak brightness of 350 cd/m² which can be adjusted accordingly. High brightness means you won’t have to suffer from reflections in brightly lit rooms.  The brightness is reduced when using ComfortView mode. As this monitor does not support HDR or its components, there is no HDR peak brightness available. There can be minor back-light bleeding though it won’t be much distracting

As expected with a TN panel, the Dell S2719DGF has an average contrast. Though the contrast is comparable to other TN and IPS panels, it is undoubtedly no match for a VA panel. The black uniformity is not the best whilst black appears gray at best. As a result of low contrast, you may not be able to enjoy the best experience playing games with plenty of dark scenes such as Resident Evil 7, Witcher 3 etc. The low contrast also causes things to generally appear brighter than they actually are. The monitor isn’t equipped with a local-dimming feature.  If you have Black Stabilizer turned on, try turning it off. It might help to give slightly better darks and overall contrast. Thus contrast isn’t the strength of Dell S2719DGF. If you are searching for a monitor with much better contrast, the AOC CQ27G1 might just be the one for you.

TN panels don’t have a good reputation when it comes to viewing angles and of course, the Dell S2719DGF is no exception. While this monitor’s viewing angles are highly competitive when compared to other TN panels, it is simply no match against IPS panels. The colors appear washed out when viewed at an angle. The vertical viewing angles are especially bad. There is a significant change in brightness when viewed at angles. Only the person sitting directly in front of the monitor gets the best experience while others on the sides will certainly not be happy. The Dell S2719DGF is therefore not suitable for sharing work with a colleague in the office or co-op gaming.

However, this Dell Monitor does come with excellent ergonomics which can serve as compensation for the poor viewing angles by adjusting the monitor according to your position of comfort. Keeping in mind the high-refresh rates and extremely low input lag, the viewing angles might just be the feature you’re willing to sacrifice.

Performance

The Dell S2719DGF is a highly responsive 144Hz monitor that is overclockable to 155Hz. It supports a 1ms G-T-G response time with an exceptionally low input lag of 4.5ms on average. These specs combined with its competitive price make it a serious option to consider for all those searching for a great budget monitor. List of gaming features in the Dell S2719DGF monitor
The AMD FreeSync technology works smoothly to deliver tear and stutter-free gaming sessions. The use of FreeSync does not seem to incur any additional input lag. The S2719DGF outstandingly maintains its low input lag of around 4.5ms with FreeSync On. The DisplayPort, as well as the HDMI ports, support FreeSync

Although the Dell S2719GDF does not come with ULMB or BFI (Black Frame Insertion), the monitor’s motion handling is pretty good. We found the “Fast” setting most suitable as we didn’t experience any serious ghosting using this setting. The “Super Fast” setting introduced overshoot/inverse ghosting. However, it must be kept in mind that this can vary, depending on the specific unit as well as the user’s preference. In addition, Overshoot and Ghosting may vary using different refresh rates as well. Bottom Line: The monitor’s motion handling is eminent overall, with minimal ghosting that will not disrupt a gaming experience.
Performance based on Ghosting, Smoothness and FreeSync Performance

Backlight bleed is something that varies. Though this differs unit to unit, there wasn’t any serious backlight bleeding to be found. In most cases, there was only minimal backlight bleed which wasn’t distracting. There is mild backlight bleed to be noticed, though we didn’t found it distracting enough to be labeled as a ‘deal-breaker’.

Design And Build Quality

Dell S2719DGF Gaming Monitor Back

Aesthetics:  Despite being a gaming monitor, the Dell S2719DGF is pretty simple in its looks. It has a stable flat stand while the body is mainly plastic, and the plastic doesn’t feel cheap. The simple yet professional design means that the Dell S2719DGF won’t have any problem gracing either an office or a gaming environment. The monitor does not have any flashy RGB lighting, which we know will come as a big relief to those who don’t have the ‘gamer flare’.

The bezels are very narrow and support multi-gaming setup. On the back, the Dell comes with a ‘recon blue’ color and an eye-catching traditional Dell Logo. The monitor doesn’t take much of desk space and it can be mounted on the wall as well. The VESA 100×100 mount holes can be seen after releasing the screen from the stand attachment point.

Overall, the Dell S2719DGF has an unintimidating and professional look and the build quality is worth applauding.

Finally, the  Preset Modes button, allows to choose from the various Preset Modes mentioned below.

When using the OSD menu, the exit button is used to go to the previous menu. The button next to it then functions as the OK button to confirm your setting selection while the next two buttons function DOWN and UP button respectively to navigate through the OSD menu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Dell S2719DGF Suitable For Longer Sessions of Gaming?

  • The monitor’s ComfortView helps reduce eye-strain by reducing Blue-Light Emission
  • The monitor also possesses flicker-free technology, to further helping limit eye-strain
  • The monitor’s ergonomics are excellent, meaning you can position the monitor in whatever position you feel comfortable
  • The bad viewing angles mean that you won’t be able to enjoy the best resolution if not seated at an optimal angle to the monitor

Overall, the Dell S2719DGF is pretty eminent when it comes to marathon gaming sessions.

Is the Dell S2719DGF Suitable For Photo/Video Editing?

Overall, if you are a professional editor and vibrant colors and their accuracy is an important priority, the Dell S2719DGF might not be the best choice for you.

Is the Dell S2719DGF Suitable For Multimedia Usage?

Of course with a TN panel, you can’t beat the color quality brought to the table by IPS or VA panels. However, this TN panel performs really well when put up against other TN panels, and keeping in mind its competitive price, it might not be a bad choice provided you are on the hunt for a budget monitor.

The monitor’s 98% SRGB color gamut and overall good picture quality ensure a good overall experience. The excellent ergonomics means allow adjustment of the monitor to whatever position you are comfortable in. However, the disappointing viewing angles mean that people sitting at the edges will get to see washed-out colors, which wouldn’t surely count as something pleasant!. The poor black uniformity and contrast mean that you won’t be getting the best experience when watching dark scenes

Is the Dell S2719DGF Suitable For Office Use?

The professional and ‘non-flashy’ look of the Dell S2719DGF makes it look a good fit when placed in an office environment. However, the poor viewing angles mean that your colleague won’t be able to see your product. That said it is compensated by the excellent ergonomics, as the monitor can be pivoted, rotated, and swiveled to share the screen with others. Apart from that, the Dell S2719DGF has a high PPI density, meaning the text appears sharp and well defined

Overall, we believe that Dell S2719DGF is pretty decent for office use
